| This photo was taken after Thanksgiving by our friends and we really like it...it's us! We are huddling at this point to keep warm...several layers of corduroy or fleece are our fashion statement until we can get our feet and hands to thaw out by maybe July. This is Missions Emphasis week and we will have a full house of folks. This afternoon Bill will do his balloon thing as "Cousin Charlie" at Colonial Village to bring a little cheer with other members of our "clown troupe". Good day for atolé or hot chocolate. | | |
| Christmas came and went...and we went to VA to be with Marli and her 5 little ones and a whole heap of her friends and extended family and we were joined by our daughter Misty, her husband Mark and their 4 kiddos. Fourteen of us in one rambling pre-Civil war home with a wood stove to keep it warm and this year the addition of a propane fireplace in the living room the fire of which looks really real. Time went by so fast, parties, brunch, birthday for our 16 yr. old Josh, hot chocolate and treats at Marli's in-laws on Christmas eve with the traditional giving out of new pairs of pj's for the grandkids. The Lord was so faithful in regard to the weather...I had been worried (oh, forgot, concerned is more "Christian"). | | |
| Last night during the process of the usual monthly "invite the college students over for grilled cheese and soup" night, two of the girls came in with a German chocolate cake for us to share to celebrate the mid-point between Bill's and my birthdays. The 27 or so kids sang Happy Birthday to us and it really made my night...it was so unexpected. We also had another dessert...a friend went camping a couple of weekends ago and realized that although she had brought the graham crackers and marshmallows, she had not brought the chocolate bars. She did, however, have Reese's pb cups and substituted them for the s'mores. We did the same last night and it was a hit. Great forgettery Reneé! | | |
| Last night during our regular "have the students over for grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup" event, a couple of our girls came in with a German chocolate cake with two candles on it - a birthday celebration on the 18th, just halfway between my birthday and Bill's. What a sweet thing! About 27 kids sang Happy birthday to us and it made my night. We also had another dessert...a friend told us that she realized on a camping trip that although she had brought the marshmallows and graham crackers she had forgotten the chocolate bars to complete the s'mores. She did have in her cache some Reese's pb cups and substituted them. We did it last night and YUM was the comment. You might even want to rationalize that the kids are getting some protein from the pb. Oh well, it was a try! | | |
| I didn't mention in my last blog that in the proces of packing to come home my bag of jewelry was put under a huge towel in our big suitcase to be checked throught instead of our carry-ons where it should be...long story made a little shorter we turned every suitcase and carryon inside out and the jewelry was missing. We called the airline, hotel, travel agency, etc. and the final word was nothing had been found or could be done. I came to peace about it and left it with the Lord. Yesterday Bill opened his attache case ,which he uses every day, and as usual took the folders out of the center and he saw something shiny. Beside the shiny earrings was the jewelry bag put there, we are sure, by the Lord. HE IS SO FAITHFUL!!! | | |
